life-sustaining systems2.jpg (13093 bytes)

Each life form must routinely carry out its daily chores to support itself.  It must interact with and depend on others for food, space, and other living commodities to survive and flourish. All life forms inhabiting a particular ecosystem together form a living web in which the work of one contributes to the welfare of itself and of others. In fact, the inter-relationship, interdependence and other activities among life forms in an ecosystem contribute to the well-being and integrity of all life forms and the heathy state of the environment where they live. These intricate activities of all life forms have sustained life on earth throughout the course of its evolution allowing it to evolve, diversify, and flourish.

This section of the gallery exhibits important and peculiar ecosystems from various regions in the world, including forest, savana, wetland, aridland, and marine ecosystems.
