RINCON RAINFOREST FUND

The Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) in northwestern Costa Rica http://www.acguanacaste.ac.cr has begun a fund-raising drive to expand by 3000 hectares to include the Rincon Rainforest (RR). This magnificent band of deep rainforest, spread over 400 to 900 meters elevation, will increase the species richness of the ACG, currently an estimated 235,000 species, by at least 10%. It will also be a major bulwark for oncoming climate change. The current land cost is $500-$1000/hectare; and once purchased is covered by the full administrative and development process and staff of the ACG. The land will also be used to conduct biosystematics research to enhance the knowledge of all life forms on earth.

Donations to the Guanacaste Dry Forest Conservation Fund (GDFCF) in the USA are fully tax-deductible and used 100% for this land purchase. Cheques should be made out to GDFCF and sent to Professor Daniel H. Janzen, Department of Biology, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104, Email:
djanzen@sas.upenn.edu - URL http:// janzen.sas.upenn.edu

Donations in Canada for the purchase of the Rincon Rainforest are also tax-deductible and used 100% for the purchase of land. The fund is managed by the Tropical Conservancy and is called the Rincon Rainforest Fund ( RRF). Please make cheques payable to "Tropical Conservancy - RRF " and send to Tropical Conservancy, 94 Four Seasons Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada K2E 7S1.
